Jim Vito
Co-founder and CEO
Jim graduated from the Bronx High School of Science and went on to study at Queens College, City University of New York, where he received a bachelor's degree in Chemistry. He then pursued a graduate degree in Organic Chemistry, working five years in DNA Intercolate Chemistry at Queens College before completing his master's in Computer Hardware with a thesis in x86 hardware and interfacing.
After graduating, Jim worked in BIOS design for several companies including SystemSoft Inc., Cyrix Corporation and Award Software, which was later purchased by Phoenix Technologies. He was hired at NVIDIA Corporation to work on the Windows9x kernel drivers. Jim went on to lead the BIOS development on the first NVIDIA nForce platform. While working together at NVIDIA, Jim led a group of engineers, including EngineLab co-founder Pat Brown, in the development of the nForce chipset memory initialization module. Jim and Pat's novel approach to PC memory initialization has been adopted as the standard by companies such as Intel and Award. Other successes include, Riva 128, nForce, and Xbox.
Jim joined Renesas in 2004, managing a team of engineers from locations in San Jose, Tokyo and Ho Chi Min City, where he successfully led the team to several design wins. In one example, to develop projects such as Windows XP/2K WDM device drivers for USB and an award-winning USB smart card mass storage device. While at Renesas, Jim worked on the repackaging of highly-complicated technologies to ease customer integration. Jim's ability to see the broad marketing picture and simplify the use of very complex technology makes him suited to lead a team of people as CEO of EngineLab.
Patrick Brown
Co-founder and Software Director
Patrick received his undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering from Clemson University in 1998 and his master's degree from the University of Texas in 2001 in Computer Engineering with a focus on computer graphics. From graduate school he went to work at NVIDIA Corporation. There, he was the BIOS team's lead in developing the NForce, NForce-2, and NForce-4 firmware. The NForce-4 was NVIDIA's first chipset to support Intel CPUs. He later joined the display driver group and contributed to the industry-leading GeForce 6 series display drivers. He met Jim Vito at NVIDIA and went on to co-found EngineLab, Inc., in 2006. |
